Are you new to this slang? Here is what it means.

What is BeReal?

BeReal is a social media app designed to encourage authenticity. It prompts users to share a real-time photo once a day. When the app sends a random notification, users have two minutes to take and post an unfiltered photo. For this, they can use either the front or the back camera.

Unlike platforms that focus on polished content, BeReal discourages excessive editing, filters, or curation, promoting a more genuine and spontaneous social media experience. Its popularity comes from its raw, unfiltered approach, making it stand out from apps like Instagram and Snapchat.

How Does BeReal Work?

  1. Daily Notification:

    • Every day, at a random time, all users receive a notification saying “It’s time to BeReal.”
  2. Minute Window:

    • After the notification, you have 2 minutes to take a dual-camera photo — it captures both:
      • Front camera (your face).
      • Back camera (your surroundings).
  3. Post to Friends:

    • Your BeReal is shared only with your friends or publicly (if you choose).
    • You can’t see others’ posts until you share your own.
  4. No Filters or Edits:

    • No likes, filters, or heavy editing — just raw, real-life moments.

Key Features

  • Spontaneous posting (no pre-planned content).
  • Dual camera capture (front & back cameras).
  • Focus on real life — not highlight reels.
  • Limited interaction (comments and RealMojis, but no likes).
